Free Class for a New Year, New Planner

Have you been to one of Lain Ehmann’s free classes or “scrapinars” as she likes to call them? They are packed with information! Each month a special guest shares on a different topic. While these started out being primarily scrapbook related, many have morphed into things that are more artful, while still being applicable and interesting to scrappers!

I am anxious to see this month’s presentation, as I think it may be a bit like the enormously popular Facebook group, The Documented Life Project (in an extended memory keeping way).

While a beautiful planner may not give you more than 24 hours in the day, it can streamline your schedule and your memory-keeping. In this month’s free scrapinar, we’re welcoming the amazing Layle Koncar of Simple Stories!

December Free Scrapinar

Layle is known for her bold, colorful, eye-catching scrapbook and pocket pages… AND for her easy-to-follow, entertaining teaching style. She’s going to show us some of the latest trends in customizable planners, demonstrating how fun and gratifying it is to combine your stories with your day-to-day planner.

Here’s What You’ll Learn:

  • The latest products available for fun and colorful planners
  • How to make your planner do double-duty as a memory-keeping aid
  • Fun ways to use products you already own to customize your planner, pockets, and pages
  • … and more super time-saving tips!

While Layle will be sharing the new “Life… Documented” planner line from Simple Stories , she’ll be sharing ideas that can work with just about any planner or product line. You won’t want to miss this interactive, entertaining session. And as always, we’ll have time for YOUR questions. This scrapinar is the perfect kick-off to your 2015!

Quote, Unquote – Class with Stephanie Ackerman

Have you noticed how much of our art has words these days? So many of us are creating one thing or another and adding words, quotes, and phrases to our pieces. Sometimes we make something and feel it isn’t quite complete until we add words to it.

We often see people looking at paintings or other works of art and trying to determine what the artist was feeling while creating the piece, their vision, or what they want us to feel when we see it. The works that we add words to are no different, but it seems to give us at least a hint into the piece. Sometimes the words are the major focus, with artfully drawn letters and added embellishments.

Many times I make something and feel like it’s missing something, until I find the words I want to add. Then it feels just right to me.

If you’d like to learn some great tips on adding words to your work, Mark you calendar for November 3! Stephanie Ackerman from Homegrown Hospitality is going to be the guest on Lain Ehmann’s November scrapinar and will be showing us how she turns ordinary text into inspiring, faith-filled works of “Heart!” I loved spending time with Stephanie at a workshop in Phoenix this summer, and I’m sure you’ll love to watch this free video class! (Here is my Artful Adventure post about our Phoenix experience with Stephanie.)  But don’t forget, you’ll need to go sign up for free, to get the viewing info, and to have a chance to watch the replay if you can’t catch it live!

Art Journaling for the Unartsy – a scrapinar

Oct Ehmann free scrapinarMy friend, Lain Ehmann, hosts monthly scrapinars. In case you don’t know, Lain is a scrapbooker and these are webinars – thus “scrapinar.” However, many of her featured guests show techniques that translate into more than just scrapbooking. I know, I know… here I go again about “more than one use for something.” But it is so true! I love the fact that art has made its way into scrapbooking, and that scrapbookers are often trying artsy things they never dreamed of! This month’s topic is, Art Journaling for the Unartsy, and I thought you may be interested or know someone else who is. Share the love!

Lain is teaching this one herself. She’s going to talk about:

  •  How to make an art journal out of just about any surface
  •  The basics for creating backgrounds for your pages
  •  Creative ways to incorporate ephemera and other found elements into your creations
  • …and much more!

It will be live on October 14th, but there will be a recording free for several days if you can’t attend live.

Embrace the Embossibilities

One of my favorite things to do is emboss! I said, “EMboss” not “BOSS! I have loved dry embossing since I had to do it with a light table, a brass stencil and a stylus! Then came along all the tools to make it easy! Heat embossing, I love that, too! If you like embossing, like I like embossing, or if you want to learn more, join the free scrapinar on August 26th. Even if you can’t make it live, be sure and sign up so you can have access to the replay!

Embossing can add so much dimension and interest to a piece! Are you getting all you can from your embossing tools? You know it is always amazing to learn how to get even more mileage from tools you ALREADY own! Plus, who doesn’t like to learn a few tricks with tools we may want to put on our never ending shopping list?

Scrapbook Super Star, Becki Adams will show us how to get some new looks with our tools, and we’ll leave wondering, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
