Here at Artful Adventures, I like to offer you ideas to kick it up a notch – without a lot of hassle!  Here is a special do-it-yourself kind of gift that lends itself well to any number of occasions.  By taking just one 12×12 inch sheet of double-sided paper, or card stock, you can easily create a special little mini-album. Just a few basic touches will make it special, but you can add whatever you’d like.  In other words, how simple or fancy you make it is all up to you!  You can add pictures, quotes, stickers, fibers, beads, buttons…..  there are endless possibilites.

Here is a look at a little mini album made from one sheet of paper.

Artful-Adventures-Treat-Holder-Kristie-Sloan

Quick and simple treat holder. Great for last minute creating!

This week’s Artful Adventures takes us on a hunt to find some easy treat holders to make.  Treat holders are great for just a little something for a special occasion or to use for party favors.  There are many sizes and ideas, but since we are looking for something that will be for a holiday this coming weekend, we want something fast and easy, right?  These projects are going to be perfect to add a little decorated stamp (or print out a little digital image and color in, I’ll give you some ideas in a minute), or a die cut that goes with your theme, the season, or the holiday!  So keep that in the back of your mind while we continue on our journey to find a great treat holder! Watch this first idea!

Turn a Printable Download into Gift Wrap

printable download small gift wrapThis week we have been on a tour of ways to use or jazz up a printable digital download.  Today I’ve got a quick idea for a bit of gift wrap for a very small gift!  Print out a printable and ta-dah! you have a little piece of gift wrap.  Now, if you are thinking, ‘Why on earth would I do that?’ consider this.

Have you ever had someone give you a little unexpected gift?  Maybe it really wasn’t expensive, but it just made you feel good to know they had been thinking about you, right?  Okay, and isn’t it always nice to have a gift that is wrapped — as if it was actually planned?  Maybe you don’t agree, but that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!  Well, you may be like a lot of people and not have a fully appointed and just for wrapping area of your home.  Little gifts don’t need a whole roll of paper, and why not just print something from your printer? You may have a big roll of green, shamrock, March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day holiday related gift wrap, but I did not.

Small project, small group of supplies!

Here is just a little gift and I went ahead and used the same Lucky printable I used earlier this week.  I like the fact that it has a limited color palette, and uses the subway art look that is popular.  I would normally select a much smaller print for a small gift, but I kind of liked the fact that it was more about the lettering and fonts than it was about the words.  If you’re wondering, the gift has nothing to do with the holiday, it was just a cute paper that was seasonally related!  Added bonus, a sheet of paper coming out of my printer was a lot easier to deal with than a big roll of wrapping paper!

A peek of the top of the little gift.

One thing you may want to note, is the fact that your regular white printer paper is usually VERY white!  Notice that the ribbon, which looks white on anything else I’ve ever used it on, appears a little more cream color against the stark white.  That’s OKAY, I’m only pointing it out so you don’t write to me and let me know it doesn’t really “match” well.

Next time you have a small gift, think about printing a wee bit of gift wrap from your printer, and try out using a printable download, ready to go!

Please join me on next week’s Artful Adventures as we explore some watercolor techniques using markers and ink pads!  Until then,

Cheers to YOUR creativity!

Artful Adventures Kristie Sloan Couples Names Subway Art Style

Couples names are individual digital files to arrange as you like!

Yesterday was Valentines Day, and I really hadn’t planned on sharing this page I made, but in the end, I wish I had shared this information with you sooner!  However, it’s not too late, this would be perfect to use for an anniversary or wedding!  Here’s the scoop:  The couples’ names are each a digital .png file, that can be arranged or sized any way you want to.  There are even more of them than I chose to use on mine. Even though I feel bad that I didn’t share it with you in time for you to use it for a Valentine, wouldn’t it be cute to use for an anniversary or wedding?  You could easily replace the “You & Me” with the couples name, and add a date!  There you go – great personalized gift!

I finally had time last night to put one together, put in a frame and gave my husband for Valentine’s Day.  I made a 5×7 (because I thought if he wanted to set around his work space it wouldn’t be too big, PLUS I figured I had a frame I could put it in.  (I like to play like I am being eco-friendly, rather than flying by the seat of my pants, and just need to grab what is on hand!)

Artful Adventures Kristie Sloan Couples Subway ArtAfter getting that done, I decided to use it for today’s scrapbook page for the Layout A Day (LOAD) challenge this month.  Why start from scratch when I already had that much done!  I added the little doodled looking border, (if you know who this designer is, please let me know!)   A “heart punch” photo of the two of us, and some journaling on the side.

Back to the heart punch.  Think how cute it would be to take photos that you won’t ever scrap, and just punch some hearts!  Or hearts punched for floral, landscape, sky… that could make some interesting hearts to add for embellishing something!

You can grab the digital couples’ names artwork here at the Stampin’Up Store. When you download it be sure to select whether you want to use it with My Digital Studio or other programs.
