Arts, Crafts, and Scrapbooking Updates

Today, I wanted to let you know about three things:

  • The new Close To My Heart Holiday Expressions idea book is available
  • Where you can find Tracie Claiborne’s Journal Your Life class
  • Donna Downey’s Find Out Fridays

The new Close To My Heart Holiday Expressions idea book became available September 1st. It is full of all kinds of items to create scrapbook pages, pocket scrapbooking, cards, and various paper crafting projects, including some Cricut projects. These items are available through December 2016. Don’t delay and miss out! See the Holiday Expressions now.

I promised I would let you know where you could get Tracie Claiborne’s “Journal Your Life” online class, so a little update today to give you the link. No, I don’t make anything from your purchase. She just put together a phenomenally helpful class on journaling. So whether you have been averse to journaling, or you are sometimes stuck, you may want to check it out!

Something else you may be interested in is Donna Downey’s new free series, Find Out Fridays. Each week we will have the opportunity to watch an artist open up a pre-selected group of materials they have been sent, and show us what they decide to do with them! I am sure those of you who are interested in art/mixed media, you will really enjoy this series.  Here is the first segment, with Jane Davenport.

What’s the Story – Journaling Your Life

For those of you who enjoy keeping documenting your life and those around you with photos, don’t forget to write the stories, as well!  Previously, I’ve written about journaling in memory keeping in this post: The Palest Ink is Better Than the Best Memory

Kristie Sloan with Tracie Claiborne

During a recent “family” reunion with my ScrapHappy group, we were fortunate to have Tracie Claiborne of the ScrapGals Podcast join us in person. Tracie allowed us to be the first participants of a new class she is putting the final touches on, regarding journaling and telling the stories of our lives.

She offered so many ideas to capture memories about not only special events, but to go beyond the surface of a photos and use them to tell so many other stories.

I’ll let you know when the class is available to everyone, you’ll want to be sure and take it; especially if you are someone who usually steers clear of adding anything but pictures to your memory keeping.

I hope you will also look into joining our ScrapHappy group, and perhaps coming to our next reunion!

Cheers to YOUR Artful Adventures!

Your Life… Inspired

Artful Adventures shares Monica Bradford class

Have you ever noticed that sometimes you feel like you need inspiration for your creative projects?  You feel stuck and can’t create your next scrapbook page, card, art journal page, etc.  You get online and look a all kinds of websites, Pinterest, FaceBook, anywhere.. just trying to figure out what you want to do.  You may even save a bunch of ideas to use “some day.”  However, you still just don’t start your own projects.

What about using YOUR LIFE as inspiration?

Art Journal Calendar, Scrapbook Style

Happy New Year!

January Calendar Artful Adventures

Oh my goodness, it’s the new year and I hope you all had enjoyable days during the holidays!  Recently, I was invited to join in on a challenge I hadn’t heard of before – making an art journal calendar for the year.  Wait, don’t run off before I tell you about it!  You may want to try something like this.

Basically, you create your own calendar in an artsy way, and then just jot down something each day!  That’s about all the journaling some of us may do!  It’s even more than some of us do now!  Some people create theirs with 1.5 inch squares, but this one was made with 2″ squares since the pages were large and could accomodate that size.  Plus, I’m not sure I can get anything written in something smaller than that!

Since many of you scrapbook, I wanted to give you an idea of how to do this, scrapbook style!

Artful Adventures Art Journal Calendar_January

Here’s a basic run down on how my January 2013 was created:

  • I did this as a double page spread, using 12×12 inch paper.
  • I first used several die cut snowflakes and and inked over the background using 3 colors of ink.
  • The bottom was masked off with torn paper, moving it around to ink over the edges and to make my snow drifts.
  • Snowflakes were then stamped.
  • Squares were cut from a decorative paper and adhered.
  • Tiny strips of paper were cut and the days of week hand written and adhered.
  • Journal blocks were outlined in black to give a little more definition.
  • Die cut letters were made for “January” and “2013”
  • White pen was used to make some icicles on the edges of some the journal squares.
  • White die cut snowflakes were added in a few places.
  • Glitter glue was added to snowflakes, snow drifts and a lot of other places for added sparkle!

I just finished mine today, but I know a couple of things I’ll write for yesterday.  Don’t be put off from doing this, just because you didn’t get it ready by January 1st!  There are plenty of days to come, and it could be a fun thing to have and look back at.  Just think, 12 layouts to sum up a year!  What fun to look back on.

If you end up making something, please come over and share it with us over at the Artful Adventures FaceBook Group!
