Heart Punch Shamrocks on March Art Journal Calendar

Artful-Adventures-Kristie-Sloan-Heart-Punch-ShamrocksI always love it when I can show you something and get a project done at the same time!  Today, I’ve got yet another way to use a heart punch or die cut.  We are almost to March this year, and St. Patrick’s Day brings Irish inspired design to many things during the month of March.

These were made from vellum so that they did not completely cover up the background layers.

For this March art journal calendar scrapbook page:

VintageSt.PatricksDay
  • Used a green piece of 12×12″ card stock for the foundation piece.
  • Die cut “March” from a printed paper, and inked the edges of the letters
  • Arranged the vintage greetings and adhered them.

  • Toned down the greetings with a bit of white craft ink.
Artful-Adventures-Kristie-Sloan-March-Project-Inking
  • Punched hearts from heavy vellum card stock
  • Inked the edges of the hearts
  • Arrange the hearts into shamrocks
  • Adhered just the points with a bit of glitter glue
  • Topped off the center of each shamrock with a bit of Crystal Effects, to make sure they adhered securely.

  • Drew stems on the shamrocks with a marker.
  • Numbered the petals of the shamrocks to be used as a tiny journal spot for each day.

Heart Punch Flowers

When you participate in any creative activity where there are daily prompts, you just never know what you will come up with!  That is no exception here today!  I have been participating in a daily scrapbooking challenge, while still wanting to give you some fun ideas to use heart punches and die cuts!  Today, I worked in some heart flowers!

Heart punches or die cuts make quick work of creating enough hearts for a project like this.  Buttons create the centers of these hearts, and stitching created the stems.  There is ink sprayed at the bottom of the stems giving it more of a “dirt” look.

This is actually a digital page, and my computer was so slow this afternoon that I really was frustrated.  Normally, it would just not have taken long to make this page either in paper or digital, but it did today.  I just realized I never put leaves on my flowers, as was my original plan.  Did YOU notice?  I’m fine with it as is.  Tell me about a project you were just happy with at some point, even though it wasn’t your plan!

Make some heart flowers and share with us over on the Artful Adventures Facebook Group!

Heart Punch Balloons!

Patterned Paper from Stampin’Up!

Today’s post is short and sweet.  I was working on a scrapbook page and used the heart punch to quickly make some balloons!  Hearts are an easy shape to make, but you can quickly use a punch or die cut to make several and be done in a snap.  I used patterned paper for these and inked the edges to give a little more depth and definition.  I just used a fine black pen to make the bottom of balloon look like it had a string tied around it, and then just pulled the line down for the rest of the string!  How easy!

You can use balloons like this in a variety of ways, whether you are scrapping, stamping, cardmaking, art journaling, or even doing some mixed media!  I how you will share your projects with us over at the facebook group!  Come on over, let’s talk!

Here are some supplies you can pick up over at my Stampin’Up! store.

ScrapAhead – Halloween or Trick-or-Treat

This is the very first in my series of ScrapAhead™ pages!  These are ideas you can use as a jumping off point to create your own pages, by using either the products I show you, or something similar.  Many holidays are so busy and you might like to get a jump start on creating some scrapbook pages, so that as soon as you can print your photos after an event, you can get them on a page and have completed pages in no time!

Today’s idea is for Halloween or Trick-or-Treat.

The background was not stamped.  We used a stencil which we made by cutting a shape with a die.  Then randomly placed the stencil around the background pages, and sponged on the darker ink.

The black swirly shape was from black paper we ran through a die cut machine using another die.

The skeleton heads are stamped on.  We used a glue pen on the eyes, and added glitter.

The right hand page uses the same boarder elements as are on the left page, but this time they are added to the top.

You can cut several mats and just leave them off the page until you are ready to adhere the pictures.  That gives you options when you put the page together.  The borders on the orange mats were made using a rolling stamp.  You could use these for pictures, or use for journaling.

The little flag has sponged edges, a stamped imagae, and is adhered with a brad.

All the products on these pages were from Stampin’Up, and if you don’t have a consultant, you can shop and get help from my friend Georgia Gugiere!  However, you can certainly see how you could use these ideas and substitute with products you may have on hand.

I will soon be having some ScrapAhead™ classes both online and in person, and will have more information on that coming soon. They are going to be FUN!
