LayOut A Day, February 2020

February is LOAD220 month at scraphappy.org, (LayOut A Day, 2020). For me, it is always a push to get some pages done, whether I complete one each day of the month, or only complete a few. Even one is always better than nothing! It would be one story told.

Alice Boll has been the force behind ScrapHappy for a number of years now. Each year there is a LOAD event in February and May open to those who wish to participate; and a members only LOAD in October. There is a central theme for the month, and then prompts for each day, including a story prompt as well as a technique prompt. Sometimes people use the story prompt, the technique, or both!  These random prompts have enabled me to tell stories I would probably never have thought of. Of course, you aren’t required to follow the prompt, and many people just use the opportunity to complete a specific project of their own. We often see pages from vacations, weddings, graduations and more.  Alice also invites ScrapHappy members to be featured designers for the different prompts. Today I have a page featured for the prompt. I will share my page with you here.

My page today is a digital page from a recent cruise my husband and I took.

Today’s prompt reminded me of what I always think when I see the sun’s rays radiating out. To me, it is as if the sky is opening and creating a magical and dramatic effect to be enjoyed! I can’t really see sunrise or sunset from my house, and so anytime I get to see these, I think it is spectacular!

This page was done using the February ScrapHappy sketch. This is a digital page, and was done quickly using two photos from our trip last year. Although the sample page for the sketch looks like you could fussy cut to layer over the photo and create more interest, I simply used a second photo as a background for the basic oval shape. The background paper is sand, and creates interest with the colorful sun rays.

The page is simple, but sometimes simple is effective. Plus another moment and story has been documented.

Hello September 2017!

september sunflowersIt is hard to believe that summer is winding down. Many of you have children who have already headed back to school, and others will start back after Labor Day weekend. How did the summer fly by? At our house it has included some very special family members moving in with us! My oldest daughter, her daughter, and my granddaughter’s new baby all moved in with us during the summer. You never know what kind of a curve ball life is going to throw your way, and life can sure be interesting. So, during this phase of their move to Texas, we are fortunate to have a place in our home to make it all work!

Having a new little one in our family has been a reminder of making sure we have a great plan in place to keep our photos safe. Do you have a plan in place? I have alway worked to make sure that my photos are backed up in several places, and urge others to do so, too. Now I have a great way to help you do that, too! FOREVER is a company devoted to helping people keep their most precious photos safe. I will be telling you more about what FOREVER has to offer, and how to use it. Besides saving photos, I’ll also have a great way to offer you digital scrapbooking again! Lots of fun info will be coming soon!

Also, I’ll be announcing new CTMH Scrapbook Club kits this next week.

For now, I just wanted to pop in and say “Hello” and wish you a happy holiday weekend.

For many of those in Texas, who are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, our thoughts and prayers go out to them, and many of us are working in relief efforts in ways we can. Please consider donating to reputable charities to help. If you are in Texas, please check out volunteer opportunities!

Until next time,

Wednesday Wonder – Scrapbook Planning

Planning for Fun, planning scrapbook pagesToday is an excellent day to talk about scrapbooking, because I am heading out tomorrow afternoon to go with one of my daughters and some friends to a scrapbook retreat! This will not be quite the pampering event that Kathy and I are accustomed to with another group of friends, because at this location…. we all have to be responsible for a meal! YIKES. Can scrapbooking be fun if we have to cook, too? I’m sure we’ll manage. Thank goodness for things like lasagne that can be made ahead, to take and toss in the oven! Can you guess what I’m taking? wink, wink

My sweet Aussie friend, Melissa Shanhun, from Digital Scrapbooking HQ, has a great guest post about scrapbook planning and scheduling over at the The Daily Digi blog. Even though Melissa teaches digital scrapping, the info she shares in this post is appropriate for any method of scrapbooking.

I have to admit, there have been very few time I have planned a scrapbook.  I mostly create pages from photos that I love, or from prompts I receive at events like the Layout A Day challenge, which begins again, February 1. However, Melissa talks about pages she plans for through the year, and I think that without really thinking about it, many of us create our scrapbook pages like this. We DO have a plan for some pages, in the back of our mind.

It would be silly of me to tell you everything Melissa said in her post about scrapbook planning and scheduling, so run on over and check it out!

Easy Digital Pocket Page Cards or Tags

With the holidays here, since it has become so popular, I was thinking how much fun it would be to show some of my family how to capture some memories with Pocket Page scrapbooking. The cards come in a zillion colors and styles, and pretty much offer something for every taste or occasion. Not only can these cards make scrapbooking easy, but the cards can be used for so much more. Since they have images, words, or even phrases, they can make quick work of a card making project, or even a “traditional” scrapbook page, and can be a great addition to a mixed media piece, or art journaling! Here was a previous post showing different uses for pocket cards.

Did you know that you can create that same pocket page look digitally? It’s really not difficult! Close To My Heart’s online software, Studio J makes it easy! Or what if you want to create your own pocket cards? You can do that, too!

Watch the video and see how easy it is.

A Gift for You!

I would like to let you all know how much I appreciate you following my blog. It is my desire that as I share things I like to do, that you’ll pick up some tips and tricks along the way; and that you’ll want to try new things. As a special “Thank You” to you, I’d like to offer these two pages of pocket page cards. All you have to do is print, and cut. You can even size them down to an 8×8″ square and print them on a letter size paper, to use any way you’d like.

Four Scrapbook Layouts Using Studio J

Since I was out of town, but wanted to get a scrapbook page done each day for the Layout A Day challenge, I decided to turn to the Studio J free online software from Close to My Heart. I knew I had plenty of digital photos, and Studio J would be easy to access while I was away!

When I get ready to create a scrapbook page, I often look through my photos and find some that I haven’t done anything with, but I want to make sure the story gets told. This week I created a page of my daughter’s graduation, a firetruck ride my grandson took, and my granddaughter’s t-ball experience last summer, and photos of a crashed car and new car of another daughter.

The most recent event was a graduation.

This layout uses the digital kit, Notebook and the layout is 6-photo, Through the Lens.

This next layout is my granddaughter while playing t-ball during the summer. This is from the digital kit Discovery, using the 7-photo layout Sweet Symphony. I guess my time spent with cameras shows in my journaling, as I spelled “cannon” as “canon,” making it a camera. Luckily I can go back in and fix the  mistake before I print the pages!

This final layout shows photos of not only a new car my daughter got, but the reason why. A friend of mine said it was sure a pretty layout for such photos! Might as well make it better looking, right? This layout used the digital kit LaBelle Vie, and the 4-photo layout Leading Lady.

If you’d like to find out more about Studio J and how to use it, please let me know by signing up below and you’ll have access to our live and recorded sessions showing what’s it all about and how to create layouts. During each session, we’ll walk through a specific kit and do a layout! Hope to see you there!
