Scrapbooking Full Page Photos

This week’s Make It Monday Blog Circle theme is Spring. Since I showed you a mixed media technique for a spring project last week, today we have something geared for scrapbooking.

If you are following the Blog Circle, you will have landed here from Alice at Scrapbook Wonderland, where she shares a layout about springtime and baby animals. I’ll send you to the next link at the end of this post.

Sometimes it is great to enlarge a photo to full page, just to enjoy it even more! The easiest way to do that is digitally. Since most of us are taking digital photos, even if you don’t create layouts digitally, you can print your photo in a size that will give you a full page, no matter what size layout you prefer to make.

Full page photo scrapbook layout

Notice that this photo is not quite the full 12″x12″ size of the layout, which may even make it easier if you were trying to print your photo instead of going completely digital. The closeup creates somewhat of a patterned paper effect for the majority of the page.

Using a small photo of the entire tree puts the closeup into perspective and tells more of the story by showing where the tree is located. Although this photo shows our neighbor’s home instead of our home, it is a great memory since it’s the view we have!

Don’t forget to jot down some info. You may think it will remain meaningful, but trust me, at some point it will be a much more interesting page in your book for the future.

What spring memory would you like to capture with a full page photo? Let us know in the comments.

Travel Theme Scrapbook Page – Wanderful

Whether traveling near or far, travel themed pages are nothing new. However, the Wanderful paper pack and accompanying items are new as of August 1st!  I used this paper pack to create a layout as one of the inspiration pieces for the Take Heart Idea sketch challenge.

Here is the sketch along side my layout. You can see I followed the sketch very closely.

When I saw this paper pack I had a great idea for the photos I would use. Although I have not been a world traveler, my husband has. I had several photos in mind that I planned to use for a layout. However, when it came time to get this done, they were nowhere to be found. I’m sure none of you have ever had that happen! Well, I found a couple of other photos to use. They aren’t all that far from home, not even out of the state, but it was a fun adventurous weekend that just the two of us had!  I’m sure I’ll find the photos and there is plenty of time to use the paper again. It will be in the new CTMH Idea book until July 2015.  Here is a closer look.

Travel themed layout featuring Close to My Heart “Wanderful” papers

The blue polka dot paper is the reverse side of the black passport print. The stamps I used were from the following sets: World Traveler #C1592, True to Life #C1575, and Take Note – #D1574 from the Cricut Artbooking Bundle.

Circles 814 THI Scetch

White pigment ink stamped on black card stock, with faux stitching in white.

A bit of baker’s twine was used for the pennant banner, with glue dots securing each of the little triangles. Faux stitching was done with a White Signo Uniball pen.

Pennant 814 THI Sketch

Triangles cut to make a pennant banner. Mounted to baker’s twine with glue dots.

A journaling spot was created by stamping on white card stock and using a punch on the side. The edges were scruffed up a bit to add a bit more dimension.

Layout-A-Day, May 2014

It’s another month of the challenge from LayoutADay.com to create a scrapbook page each day this month! Whether I complete the challenge or not, I’ll have more pages done than I would normally have. Participating is always fun because we post photos of our pages in a group on Flickr.

During these challenges, I have created many pages about my own life. If I don’t tell my story, who will? The daily prompts of LOAD inspire stories that I would probably not have thought about on my own. All of the members different pages are so diverse and it is always fun to see the different stories created from the same prompt of the day.

Today, I went WAY back in my story — the year I was born! With the internet, it is fairly easy to come up with all kinds of facts for a page like this. dMarie.com has a great feature called “Time Capsule.” All you do is just pop in the date and it pull together all kinds of facts about headlines, songs, prices of day-to-day items and more.  Here’s a look at my page.

Using a Printable Download for a Scrapbook Page

Cants Into Cans printable download Many printable downloads have a quote or a thought that would be appropriate to use on a scrapbook page.  By using one for a page, you are able to use a great deal of space on your page without having to think about it too much. Just think, someone else has done all the design work on the printable!  They have selected the colors, the fonts, the layout, the phrase … ALL of it!   If you like the way the printable looks, you are ready to go!

Have you seen this saying before?  “She turned her can’ts into can’s, and her dreams into plans.” What a powerful reminder of determination!  As many daughters as I have, and as many women as I know, I thought this would be a great one to use for today’s Artful Adventures project!

One of the first things that came to mind, when thinking of what scrapbook page to use this on, was my daughter’s college graduation.  She decided to go back to school and earn her college degree. She did so while working full time.  It was a lot of work, but she did it anyway.  I had just a few pictures that turned out well and I still had never done anything with them.  Actually, instead of looking at the pictures and only feeling happy about her achievement, I would look at them and become irritated about how awful they turned out. The pictures were a reminder to see about a new camera that would take better pictures in low light!

Cants Cans Printable Download Scrapbook PageYou will notice that the page is rather simple.  It includes:

  • 2 Photos
  • 1 Printable digital download
  • Background Cardstock
  • Partial sheet of print paper
  • Journaling strip
  • 3 Brads

Such a little effort to finally have a wonderful memory on a page!

This example uses the printable as it was.  However, this particular one from Stampin’Up! comes with stamp/brushes that can be used in any program and the colors can be changes as you like.  You have the option of using the file as is, or you can change the colors in appropriate software.

Artful Adventures

I have one more idea for this weeks’ Artful Adventures in printable digital downloads!  Until next time, Cheers to YOUR creativity!
